Privacy policy
Last updated · May 12, 2026
SweetSpot is built around a simple promise: we don't need to know who you are to score schools for you. This page describes what data we do and don't handle, and why.
What we collect
Anonymized usage data. SweetSpot uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and referrers. Vercel hashes your IP address and user-agent into an anonymous daily visitor identifier — no cookies are set and no cross-site tracking is performed. We cannot link this data back to a specific person.
No accounts. SweetSpot does not have user accounts. No sign-up, no login, no profile.
Your priorities and settings
The priorities, weightings, and area you choose are stored locally in your browser's localStorage so the site remembers them between visits. They never leave your device. Clearing your browser storage will reset them.
Payments
Payments for the $5 unlock are processed entirely by Gumroad. SweetSpot does not collect, store, or have access to your credit card numbers, billing address, or any other payment details. Gumroad's handling of that data is governed by Gumroad's privacy policy.
After purchase, Gumroad delivers a license key to your email and you paste it into SweetSpot. SweetSpot stores only the validated license status (free vs. paid) in your browser's local storage — not your email address.
SweetSpot does not run a mailing list and does not collect email addresses on its own. If you email froehlich.jeff@gmail.com (feedback, refund requests, support questions), the address is used only to reply to you. It will not be sold, rented, or shared with third parties.
If you purchase via Gumroad, Gumroad collects your email address for receipt and license-key delivery. That data lives in Gumroad's system, not SweetSpot's.
No tracking cookies
SweetSpot does not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, session-replay scripts, or third-party tracking scripts. The only data persisted in your browser is your priority settings, your unlock status, and the standard cookies set by Vercel for hosting (no analytics cookies).
Third-party services
SweetSpot relies on a small number of third parties:
- Vercel — hosting and privacy-friendly analytics (privacy policy).
- Gumroad — payment processing and license-key delivery (privacy policy).
- California Department of Education — source of all underlying school data (privacy notice).
Children’s privacy (COPPA)
SweetSpot is intended for use by adults — parents, guardians, and others researching schools. The site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If you believe a child has interacted with SweetSpot in a way that involved personal information, please email us and we'll address it promptly.
California privacy rights (CCPA)
SweetSpot's users are primarily California residents, so we'll be explicit:
- We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Full stop.
- You have the right to know what personal information we collect about you. The honest answer for the SweetSpot site itself is “none we can tie to you” — usage data is anonymized at the source.
- You have the right to request deletion of any personal information held by SweetSpot. Email us and we'll act on the request.
For payment-related data, exercise your CCPA rights directly with Gumroad.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be flagged on the landing page for at least 14 days.
